Desperate Measures?

Desperate times call for desperate measures. But, looting is not the answer. I can understand stealing food or diapers not flat screen TVs. When the whole world has crashed around you, sometimes you feel helpless and frantic to help provide for your family. However, pictures we are all seeing are enough to make me sick. One of our local Houston TV reporters was in New Orleans as people openly took advantage of the horrible situation and grabbed whatever they wanted. Our reporter even talked to these people who willingly said they had a right to steal and would do it again. I cant even compare these people to animals. Animals have more respect. They only take to survive. The looters may think they have a right but in the longer run we are all hurt by these people.

Internet Poker Players Beware!

Ok, you internet poker players out there, listen up! Trash talking is not necessary. My husband has been playing internet poker for a couple of months now. He has great fun and enjoys chatting with the players. He has noticed that there are frequently players joining the table have the humor of a mad bee. Apparently, some men think it is fun to bully women players and make them so upset that they leave the table. This made my husband mad. He plays with a group who have fun and joke around while playing. He really gets mad when low class (apparently) men join the table and think it's fun to be rude and crass to the women players. This is not fun! There is no need to upset people like that. You think you will win more by intimidating and being mean spirited in your sick excuse for humor. You wont! The good guys will run You off!

Hurry up fall

Ok, I'm ready for fall. I am officially tired of summer. I enjoy my garden but my poor flowers are getting tired. The green is turning brown and dry. Every time I look the window the flowers seem to droop. The elephant ears hang low everday. It all seems to be pooped out, except for the butterflies and the hummingbirds. They dont seem to mind how hot it is, just so long as there is enough nectar. I am tired of the sticker shock every month when I get my electric bill. I hope the Texans enjoy Reliant stadium, You'd think the electric company could find more to do with their money. Everyday I look at the weather reports which never seem to see the temperature go down. Right now snow looks good, though we wont get any. Of course, when its cold, I'll probably complain too

Brac

People around here a sitting on their hands these days because the Brac group is debating the closure of Ellington Field and the retirement of its fighter planes. I worry because if they do this we will not have any protection for our gulf coast. We have a lot of oil refineries around here as well as a very busy port. When the FAA ordered all commercial planes out of the skys after 9/11 we could hear the fighter planes high over head patroling. We need the protection. Besides, as long as Bush 41 lives here he comes in there as well as Bush 43. An of course we have NASA here. Granted it wont help keep illegal aliens from crossing the border but an old fighter jet is better than no fighter jet

South Carolina Part II

First the Chrisitian Exodus (ChristianExodus.org) wants South Carolina to leave the union to become an independent Christian country. Now some idiot wants the University of South Carolina to drop the gamecocks as their mascot. Oh boy, they say since cockfighting is illegal USC should not have them as a mascot. Apparently since it brings up cruelty issues as well as association with other illegal activites such as drugs and illegal gambling. USC has been around since 1801. Suddenly, it should change their mascot? Maybe Clemson University should drop the Tiger as its mascot in light of the recent mauling of a teenage girl. Maybe Southern Cal should drop the Trojan as its mascot. Dont want to offend the ancient Romans, or the condom industry. I think I am going to be sick.

Pat Robertson speaks

Mr Robertson has a point. It would be cheaper to off the Venezuelan President rather than start a war. The bigger question is do public figures have the right to use the celebrity as a soap box? Witness the Dixie Chicks. Personally I think we have the right to free speech, even if it embarressed the administration. But doing it on a showcase such as a concert or, in Mr Robertson's case his 700 Club program is questionable. Maybe he should have prefaced it saying that he was editorializing and that his opinions were his own.

I love fruit but...

I love fruit but why to the producers have to always put those tiny stickers on each piece. If I buy 6 plums, I have to pull 6 stickers off. Same goes for apples and various others. Why do they do this? If they are trying to annoy me they are succeeding very well. Just try to pull one off a plum with out pulled off the skin too. Why do they do this? Is it a tracking devise or brand sign? At least they dont do it to strawberries or blueberries, or do they...?

Can I get a Refund?

I want my money back! The wonderful boobs that we elected to run our wonderful state of Texas need to refund us. The Texas legislature has wasted over $3,000,000 in two special sessions to solve the school finance issues. They have solved nothing! Many of them did not even show up for sessions. Some even went on vacation. I saw one of our reps in the front row at home plate during an Astros game. That really helps get our kids educated. I dont know what the problem is, but I am upset at the waste. Taxes are high enough, we dont need to waste them on do-nothings. Can I get a refund?

TOO PC?

Is it possible to be too sensitive? Are we afraid to offend people? What has happened to freedom of speech and creative license? I saw that the Catholic League is mad about the movie being made from Dan Brown's book the Da Vinci Code. They and others want Ron Howard and Sony Pictures to soften and alter the storyline because they are unhappy about the way the Church is portrayed in the book, and now the movie. Remember the Catholic Cardinal lambasting the book? What are all these people afraid of? Ron Howard is a good director and a nice, well liked man in Hollywood. They forget that this is a work of fiction, although some details of the work have been researched and are true. People need to get a grip. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and have seen the world change a lot. But come on! It's FICTION, get over it!

I cant win

I cant win. I guess you could call me a "hands off" parent. My kids are all grown up. About the only time I hear from them may be on Mother's Day or Christmas when they make the obligatory phone call. I'm not the type who calls constantly wanting to know what is going on or what the grandkids are doing. I know that they have their own plans and activities. We dont even live close. I have never been a type of person ( or parent) who interupts. I know they have their own active lives and I applaud that. Sometimes I feel I cant win. I was chastised last year because I forgot to call my younger daugter on her anniversary, so this year I remembered. They live across the state and since it was a Sunday I did not want to disrupt their activities, so I sent her a text message hoping not to interfere with what they were doing. She t-mailed back "thank you, we are watching a movie" Well, so sorry I bothered you. I cant win!

Shuttle Scuttle?

Should we scuttle the shuttle? With all the news lately about the tile problems I wonder what they did during all the other flights? Over the 20some years, nothing was said that would increase worry about the flights. After the Columbia tragedy, suddenly everything on the shuttle is suspect. Did the government hide information? NASA says that foam breaks off and other dings have been going on the entire shuttle space program. So why have they not taken this more seriously from the begining? Makes me wonder if every time a shuttle is launched or returns, they are one tile away from another disaster

Is There A Frist Flop In The House?

I see that Bill Frist has now come out in favor of stem cell research. Watch my head spin! His departure from the conclave headed by his fearless(or fearsome) leader, President Bush begs the question; is Mr. Frist going to run for President? For years Bill Frist's nose has been so far up George Bush's ass that if the President made a quick turn Frist would in up with a broken nose. What made Mr. Frist change his mind? Is this change of heart for the good of medical research or is it go gain support for a future Presidential run? And the Republicans said Senator Kerry was a flip-flopper!

Watch Out South Carolina

I heard of a Christian conservative group ChristianExodus.org who says the Republicans are not Christian enough. They want to establish South Carolina as a Christian state. They even want if necessary for the state of South Carolina to cecede from the Union. What! I lived in South Carolina for more than 10 years. I hope the SC brains dont encourage this. I dont begrudge anyone their religion, but let's get real. These people think the Bush people arent conservative enough and they want a state to live according to Revelations. Yikes!

Eating Air

I never noticed this before. Eating Rice Krispies is like eating air. When I was a kid, I thought they were great, snap, crackle, pop, etc. The other day, since I was out of my usual "healthy" cereal, I tried a bowl. I was disappointed to discover that this popping good cereal tastes like chewing air. What a let down. To think that I enjoyed them as a kid. Alas, one more childhood memory shot down.

Is Thank You so hard to say?

Thank you. Is that so hard to say? I am more than willing to do favors for or help people but it gets annoying when certain people never say thank you. I was raised in an era when people were polite to one another. It was especially well taught to me by my parents. Having been raised in the deep south it was just natural. I thought I raised my children in the same way, but I guess I failed with one of them. I have a daughter who occasionally asks me to keep her children for various reasons. I have yet to get one small "thank you, mom" from her. I just dont understand.

What are his plans?

I dont know what to think about my son. At 26 (In August) he needs a keeper. I have serious doubts that he can handle life by himself. He recently had his cell phone cut off again because he did not pay his bill. He spends at least $40 a week for gas to visit his friends every week end. He never seems to have any money. I wonder how long it will take before his stepsister kicks him out. He's been sharing a house with her since his separation from his wife. He never seems to be able to help pay the rent or his fare share of anything. I just wonder what he is thinking or if he has any plans for his future.

How did I do it

How did I do it? I have just spent about 3 weeks with 3 of my grandchildren while their parents moved. Man... the 9 year old only wants to play on the computer (she's better at CSI than her mother) and the 4 year old seems to spend most of the time following his younger sister around. The youngest spends most of the time going up and down the stairs. How come I did not lose any weight having to go up and down the stairs so much? I swear that the youngest child is going to be the ring leader for trouble! She can get into more trouble in less time... And to think that I had 3 kids! I dont remember them being as wild as these are, but maybe I just dont remember. I'm tired.

Error Report attacks

Sometimes I wonder about Microsoft. Why is it when I am writing something that I have just thought and dont want to lose it-Microsoft does it for me? The other day I had captured some thoughts and was writing them while they were fresh when I get the message the Microsoft had detected an error and would have to close. Do you want to send an error report? Yeah right, you made me loose something I cant get back. I had it when I'm on a roll and something goes awry. Thanks Uncle Bill!

Flushing the Quran

I know Newsweek is in a world of trouble because of the Quran flushing story. I have a serious question about this. How do you flush a book down the toilet? When my children were small, they would occasionally drop a toy into it. This would usually result in the toilet overflowing and questions asked about why they did it. Not to mention the overwhelming desire to flush the kids,too. So, without totally tearing all the pages out of the Quran, how did they get it down?My husband is a plumber and he has unstopped many a toilet in his day. Trust me, a book is not that easy! Could this story have been fabricated?

What's Next?

Well we now have yet another official Texas item. We all know that the Mockingbird is the state bird and the Bluebonnet is the official state flower. Now our wonderful legislature has voted to name the Blue Lacy as the official state dog. I have nothing against dogs. I love dogs. But come on... I thought it was nuts when our politicos voted the dutch oven the official utensil of Texas. Now we have an official dog. Meanwhile the school funding bill goes nowhere.Why dont they vote for an official Texas worm? Our elected officials never cease to amaze me. They could be debating and planning how to help our state by solving serious issues like school finance, but at least we have an offical state dog. What is the official state cat? What will they think of next?
